About the podcast

Honest, field-tested information about working in and getting hired into Norway’s seafood industry.

“Renat Besolov. Answering questions” is a podcast about the profession of the Norwegian crab fisherman, told by someone who walked the path himself. In each episode Renat answers listeners’ questions: how work on Norwegian crab boats is organised, how much sailors earn in Norway, and how a foreigner can get onto a fishing vessel directly, without crewing agencies.

A separate thread of the podcast covers the maritime documents and certificates you can’t get hired onto the crab fleet without: the STCW, STSP and SIPS programmes, safety requirements and the maritime technology of modern snow- and king-crab fishing. This is the practical base people usually only learn over years at sea.

The podcast continues the line of more than 100 interviews Renat gave to outlets in 12 countries, and the educational mission of the BFISHERMAN platform.
