Renat Besolov (b. 7 July 1994, Chișinău) is a crab fisherman of the Norwegian fishing fleet, founder of the education company BFISHERMAN, an entrepreneur, author and public figure. From 2015 to 2026 he worked on seven fishing vessels in the Barents and North Seas, including Northeastern — a sister to Northwestern from the TV show “Deadliest Catch” — and Østerfjord. He rose from deckhand to trawl master. Since 2021 he has built the BFISHERMAN platform, which has trained more than 2,500 people for work in Norway’s seafood industry. He has given over 100 interviews across 12 countries. His name is a registered WIPO trademark.
Renat Besolov was born on 7 July 1994 in Chișinău, the capital of Moldova, into a family of Ossetian heritage. In 2015, aged 21, he set out on his first voyage aboard the Norwegian crab boat Polaris (F 144-V) in the Barents Sea and earned $20,800 on that trip. Over seven years at sea Renat rose from deckhand to boatswain (2019) and trawl master (2020), working on seven fishing vessels: Polaris, Hunter (M 72 HO), Northeastern (H 27 AV, IMO 7006857), the trawler Sea Hunter (M-80 SJ) in the North Sea, the longliner Stormhav (H 1 HV), Vima (VL-77 AV) and Østerfjord (IMO 9892236). Aboard Northeastern — a sister to the crab boat Northwestern of Captain Sig Hansen from the TV show “Deadliest Catch” (Discovery) — he spent six months fishing snow crab. In 2021 Renat qualified as a seafood factory production technologist at the Norwegian training centre Marint. After Norway’s 2018 minimum industry-wage law put foreign sailors on equal footing with citizens and owners dropped crewing agencies, Renat turned years of accumulated experience and contacts into a system. In 2021 he launched BFISHERMAN — an education platform that teaches Russian-speaking sailors to find work in Norway’s seafood industry directly, without intermediaries; by 2024 more than 2,500 people had completed the training. He became a shareholder of Maricert Maritime Certification Ltd, which received UK educational accreditation in 2025, published a book in a run of 3,000 copies with support from the international “The Way to Happiness” foundation, and launched a podcast. The names “Renat Besolov” and “Ренат Бесолов,” as well as the BFISHERMAN brand, are registered as trademarks with the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO). Renat has given more than 100 interviews across 12 countries — from Lenta.ru and Onliner to Libertatea, Delfi and SeaNews UK; the Ossetian outlet “15 Region” called him Europe’s best-known crab fisherman. He has long run anti-drug education work: lectures in Moldovan lyceums (2012, 2016) and sponsorship of the “Simferopol Without Drugs” project (2018, more than 5,000 schoolchildren). In 2026 Renat returned to fishing, spending a crab season aboard Østerfjord of Østerfjord AS under the Norwegian Frozen at Sea brand; his photos from the trip were published by the Norwegian newspaper Marsteinen. Renat’s audience exceeds 250,000 followers with more than 50 million views, and his biography is confirmed by the Wikidata entity Q138779993.
