Biography

Colonel, general, deputy Navy minister

Vano Tsappoevich Besolov came from the Ossetian Besolov (Besoltæ) family of the Alagir Gorge. He served in the Imperial Russian Army and rose to colonel of artillery.

He later emigrated to Turkey. According to the Ossetian family encyclopedia, during the Russo-Turkish war he was a general of the Turkish army, and then took the post of deputy minister of the Navy of Turkey.

The Turkish branch of the Besolov family can also be traced in the family tree: from Brakh Besolov — one of the most famous residents of the Alagir Gorge, who built several ancestral towers in the 18th century — part of the family moved to Turkey.
